Acupuncture Treatment
We always take acupuncture as a complementary treatment based on a complete treatment plan. Depending on your initial assessment, your treatment plan may also consist of manual therapy.
The procedure itself can last up to one hour, depending on the condition that is being treated, and this includes the time taken to insert the needles.

What conditions can be treated with acupuncture?
A wide range of conditions and symptoms can be treated using acupuncture. For example, many people have been treated for headaches, respiratory disorders and menstrual cramps. However, current guidelines from the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence have stated people should only consider acupuncture as a treatment option for chronic (long-term) pain.
These conditions include:-
- Tension-type migraines
- Sciatica
- Arthritis
- Joint pain
- Postoperative pain
- Dental pain
How does acupuncture work?
It is one of the longest practices still used within the healthcare industry, originating in China approximately 2,500 years ago. The technique is designed to block or disturb the flow of energy throughout the body, stimulating healing and promoting relaxation.
Very fine needles are inserted into the ‘acupoints’ of the body. They help stimulate the sensory nerves under the skin and muscles. This procedure releases endorphins and oxytocin, your body’s own pain and stress relieving chemicals.
The procedure itself can last up to one hour, depending on the condition that is being treated, and this includes the time taken to insert the needles.

What does acupuncture feel like?
Acupuncture can be a very different experience from one person to the next. First-timers may expect pain when the needles are inserted into the skin, but this is not the case. The needles are so delicate; that pain is not felt in most cases.
Once the needles start going in, many clients describe the sensation of release, like a flow of energy; others describe a weight or pressure over the treated area. In nearly all cases, a sensation of buzzing, tingling and numbness is experienced during the session, which may leave you feeling relaxed or somewhat drowsy for a few hours after.
How long does it take for acupuncture to work?
The relaxing sensation and healing are instant, but in most cases, where chronic pain is a factor, success varies from person to person, depending on circumstance.
